With sixth-floor views of the Empire State building and three wood-burning ovens, Stella 34 Trattoria is a modern Italian trattoria and the dining star of Macy's flagship store.

Executive Chef Jarett Appell offers Neapolitan pizza from wood-burning ovens with fior di latte mozzarella, Caputo flour imported from Naples, San Marzano tomatoes from the foothills of Mount Vesuvius and water meticulously sourced from local wells to match the pH and mineral balance of the natural spring water in Naples. The menu showcases al forno entrées, house-made pasta, fresh salads, "piccoli piatti" – signature Italian antipasti designed for sharing – and an all-Italian wine list of more than 100 bottles.

The restaurant also features a Cibi Ronda, an Italian take-away counter, where busy shoppers can pick up chef-crafted salads, panini, focaccia, coffee and gelati from Italy's finest Vivoligelateria.

Stella 34 Trattoria is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner and drinks at the bar or in the lounge. Direct access from the street is available via dedicated sixth-floor express elevators at Macy's Broadway and 35th Street entrance.

Jarett Appell
Executive Chef - Stella 34 Trattoria

Executive Chef Jarett Appell refined his mastery of Italian cuisine traveling between kitchens in Italy and New York City throughout his career. Ten years of education and experience drove the dishes Appell developed for Stella 34 Trattoria into a menu of authentic Neapolitan cuisine and pizza.

At ALMA, La Scuola Internazionale di Cucina Italiana in Colorno, Italy, Appell earned his diploma of Mastery of Italian Cuisine. Over the years, he has traveled the country, working with renowned chefs in Rome, Parma, Cattolica and Naples, Italy.

At the Hostaria dell’Orso, the oldest restaurant in Rome, Appell worked with Gualtiero Marchesi, considered to be the father of modern Italian cuisine and a founder of ALMA. Appell then returned to New York as sous chef at Union Square Café for five years.

Appell ventured back to Italy, this time to Naples, to work with Enzo Cocciaat Pizzeria La Notizia—the first (and at the time, only) pizzeria in the Michelin guide – where Appell became a Master Pizzaiolo Napoletano. Following, Appell opened Donatella in New York as executive chef.

Appell has collaborated in the kitchen of Lincoln Ristorante with his peer, Jonathan Benno, executive chef of Lincoln Ristorante, to develop the Neapolitan dishes featured at Stella 34 Trattoria. “Stella 34 Trattoria showcases my deep study of kitchens and pizzerias in Rome, Parma, Cattolica, Naples and my work with New York’s best chefs, ”adds Appell.
